Pet Dispensing fee
For Dogs, Cats, Rabbits, Guinea pigs, Small Rodents (Hamsters, Rats, Gerbils, etc.), Ferrets · Prescription, dispensing & administration
A dispensing fee covers supplying medication directly from our pharmacy – checking the prescription, counting out and labelling the right quantity, and going through how to give it. It is charged when we supply the medicine rather than writing a prescription for elsewhere.
About Dispensing fee in pets
When we dispense medication ourselves you leave with it in your hand, correctly labelled, having had a chance to ask how to give it. The dispensing fee covers that work.
What you get
- The medication checked against the prescription and your pet’s record.
- The right quantity measured, counted or split, and labelled with your pet’s name, the dose and the instructions.
- A proper explanation of how and when to give it, what to watch for, and what to do if a dose is missed.
- Someone to ring if it is not going well at home.
Dispensing or prescription?
You can always choose. For short courses and small quantities, dispensing here is usually cheaper and quicker. For long-term medication in larger quantities a written prescription may cost less overall. Both prices are published, so you can compare before you decide.
If giving medication is a battle
Tell us. Tablets can sometimes be swapped for a liquid, a flavoured version or a long-acting injection, and our nurses can show you techniques that genuinely help. A medicine that stays in the packet does your pet no good at all.
