Working with your pet insurer

Insurance means you can say yes to the treatment your pet needs without worrying about the bill, so we always recommend having a policy in place before you need it. Whichever insurer you use, we will help you make your claim. There are two ways it can work, depending on your policy.

We claim from your insurer

Your insurer pays us directly.

  • Ask us before treatment starts – we arrange direct claims case by case, and not every insurer or policy allows them.
  • We will need a signed claim form, and your permission to talk to your insurer about the claim.
  • You pay your policy excess, and anything your policy does not cover, at the time.
  • If your insurer does not pay, the bill remains yours to settle.

You claim from your insurer

Your insurer pays you back.

  • You pay us in full when your pet is treated.
  • We fill in the vet’s part of your claim form and send your pet’s clinical history to your insurer.
  • Your insurer then reimburses you, less your excess.
  • Let your insurer know you are claiming and that we may contact them – it keeps things moving.
  • We charge £31.50 for completing a claim, to cover the time it takes. It is listed with our other fees above.
  • The full detail is in our terms and conditions.

Things worth knowing

  • We may charge for written and repeat prescriptions to cover the time, responsibility and professional insurance involved. We will tell you the cost before we issue one.
  • Anything not listed here is quoted individually – please ask and we will give you an estimate.
  • You can pay by cash, debit card or credit card at the practice. We are unable to accept personal cheques.

Spread the cost of routine care

Our Friends of Westport plans cover your pet’s routine care for a monthly payment, with discounts on other treatments.
