Pet Prescription fee (repeat)

For Dogs, Cats, Rabbits, Guinea pigs, Small Rodents (Hamsters, Rats, Gerbils, etc.), Ferrets · Prescription, dispensing & administration

A repeat prescription fee covers re-issuing medication your pet is already established on. It still needs a vet to check the notes and confirm the medicine, dose and quantity remain right before it is signed.

About Prescription fee (repeat) in pets

Repeats are for medication your pet is stable on and that we have prescribed before. They are not automatic: a vet reviews the record each time before signing.

How to request one

  • Ring or ask at reception, giving your pet’s name, the medication and the strength.
  • Allow a couple of working days. If we have to order something in, allow longer.
  • Request it before you run out, not after. Stopping some medications suddenly is genuinely dangerous.

Why we need to see your pet periodically

We cannot keep repeating a medication indefinitely without seeing your pet. For most long-term treatments that means a check every 3 to 6 months, sometimes with blood tests. It is how we catch side effects, confirm the dose is still right, and pick up changes in the condition. If a repeat is refused until your pet is seen, that is why.

What it costs

The repeat fee is on our price list, as is the dispensing fee where we supply the medication ourselves. Some of our pet health plans discount prescription medication.
