Vaccinations

At Westport Veterinary Clinic in South Queensferry

Vaccination protects against diseases that are still out there and still kill. Every vaccination appointment includes a full health check, which for most adult pets is the one proper examination they get each year.

What we offer and what it costs

Prices include VAT and are for a typical case. If your pet needs more, we will tell you the cost before we start.

Anything not listed here is quoted individually – please ask and we will give you an estimate. See our full price list.

Starting out

A primary course builds protection from scratch and takes two or three visits a few weeks apart. Puppies usually start at 6 to 8 weeks, kittens at around 9 weeks, and rabbits can be done from 5 weeks. Protection is not complete until a week or two after the final injection – the vet will give you the exact date.

Keeping it topped up

Immunity fades, so boosters keep it going. Not every component needs doing every year: some are annual, others every three years. We will set a schedule that suits your pet’s species, age, health and lifestyle rather than vaccinating for the sake of it. If a booster has lapsed, ring us – your pet may need to restart the course rather than have a single injection.

Kennel cough

Given as drops into the nose rather than an injection, and required by nearly all boarding kennels – usually at least two weeks before the stay. Worth doing for any dog who mixes with others at daycare, classes, grooming or busy parks.
